It’s Not Brainwashing; It’s Washing Your Brain!

Social media static, self-help guru chatter, AI dependency, and being consumed with polarizing political vitriol - all these things cause mental refuse and before you realize it, your brain is a receptacle for unhealthy, non-productive, spiritually stifling matter - a vast wasteland of shallow thoughts and emptiness where you begin to lose sight of who you are and Whose you are. Being bombarded with all this noise drains you mentally, physically and spiritually. It literally sucks the life out of you - the beautiful life that God designed for you while you were still in your mother’s womb.
“Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be…” (Psalm 139:16).
Now, you could probably make a strong argument as to why some of these things are necessary for you to keep up with, but when you spend countless hours each day immersing yourself with all that stuff, to the point where you marginalize and sacrifice spending time with God through reading your Bible, your priorities are out of order.
When we neglect spending time with our Heavenly Father, our eternal perspective becomes clouded, and we give space for chaos and conflict to rule our thoughts. This will lead to putting your trust in man and his ability, which is very scary. For once we take our eyes off of Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), we welcome this deluge of disruptive matter to take up real estate in our minds.
“The more focus we give to the world, the less time and focus we have to dedicate to the Word” (Dr. David Jeremiah, Turning Point Ministries Newsletter, March 2026).
When we focus more on what the world has to say and allow the world’s view to permeate our minds, we begin to look and sound just like the world: fearful, bitter, hateful and discouraged. Instead of rightly dividing the Word of Truth, a.k.a., handling God’s Word accurately and responsibly, we indulge in godless chatter becoming more and more ungodly (2 Timothy 2:15).
Rather than giving your time and energy to all these distractions that are vying for your undivided attention, resist the pull and spend time with the Holy Word of God, and allow His cleansing power to Wash Your Brain through the transforming work of the Holy Scripture.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2).
It is imperative that we filter everything through the Word of God. This will keep us from being stuck and unsure of how we should engage in the beautiful life He ordained for us. It is the Lord who adds meaning, purpose, and value to our lives, and as we stay tethered to Him, He will take care of our needs.
We don’t have to fret over what we see and hear. Because the Lord is our Good Shepherd, we shall lack nothing. He guides us through hardship and uncertainty. In the midst of it all, He prepares a table before us and anoints us until our cup overflows… if we follow His leading (Psalm 23). And the only way to know how He leads is to get in His Word!
To those of you who embrace the washing of the Word – praise God! Go forth and allow the Word of God to flow through you. Allow it to shape your life and transform you. Become agents of reconciliation, grace, and peace. Proclaim God’s sovereignty to those who desperately need His healing in our community, our culture, and our world.
And for those of you who are thinking to yourself, “It ain’t that serious,” I admonish you to pause and reflect on just the last 48 hours of your life. How much time did you spend feeding your flesh secular news and information, thereby subjecting yourself to possible brainwashing, and how much time did you spend strengthening your spirit man through the Word of God, thereby letting God Wash Your Brain?
You do the math.
