Why Creativity Belongs in BridgeKids
We Serve A Creative God
We serve a creative God who speaks before he acts. From the void, the vast emptiness and darkness that existed in the beginning, the Master Creator spoke, Let there be light," and there was light. He spoke something that didn't exist-it had no definition or meaning-until He conceived of it and birthed it into being. His creativity was, and is, intentional. It is reflective of His divine power and wisdom, and His creation is presented with beauty and splendor.
When you consider all of God’s wondrous works—from the symphony of chirping birds and wind rustled leaves, to the kaleidoscope of multicolored lifeforms in the earth and sea—do you find yourself as humbled as I am that God looks at us and calls us His masterpiece? We are made in His image and, because of that, we are made to create and innovate.
A Foundation & History of Creativity
Bridgeway Community Church is a church that prizes creativity to both illustrate and illuminate the Word of God. From its beginning, Dr. Anderson recognized the power of the Creative Arts to enable us to connect more deeply with the Lord and with each other. We see this demonstrated through corporate worship and the musical and dramatic expression that we get to enjoy each Sunday.
By extension, BridgeKids is not simply a place where children are supervised while parents attend service. From birth through 5th grade, we operate with focused intentionality: equipping children to build a personal relationship with God while partnering with parents to cultivate the spiritual development of their children.
BridgeKids is a discipleship environment designed to shape who they are becoming. Because children naturally have a curiosity and openness that God teaches us as adults to emulate, there is no better tool for engaging their hearts, minds, and imaginations than creativity and the creative arts.
Why Creativity Matters
In BridgeKids, creativity isn’t an “extra.” It is our primary pathway for spiritual formation.
Children learn best when they experience truth. Through worship, storytelling, and hands-on environments, truth becomes tangible.
In spaces like Craft Club, children create visual reminders of biblical truth. In LEGO Bible Club, they literally build scenes and stories from Scripture, connecting imagination with meaning. What they create reinforces what they learn.
Jesus often taught through stories and images because truth sticks when it’s experienced. A child who only hears truth may forget it. A child who engages with it begins to own it.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart… soul… and mind” (Matthew 22:37).
Creativity activates the mind and imagination. It invites children to think, question, and internalize what they believe.
Whether they’re interpreting Scripture through building, creating, or discussion, they are developing a faith that is personal and not just borrowed from what the adults around them say.
Creativity Develops Courage and Expression
Many adults struggle to express their faith because they were never given space to practice. BridgeKids intentionally creates that space while developing children as servant leaders. Through groups like Choir (COL & OMR), Dance, Drama, Drums, Worship Team, and even Tech Team (COL & OMR), children learn to use their voices, talents, and skills to serve God while serving their peers through collaborative ministry.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young…” (1 Timothy 4:12).
Think back to the awkwardness and insecurity of childhood. Through the BridgeKids Creative Arts groups, children gain confidence to boldly profess their faith with the ultimate goal of being able to do so outside of Bridgeway’s walls.
From the very beginning, God revealed Himself as Creator. When children create through art, music, technology, or storytelling, they reflect Him. These expressions are not distractions from faith. They are evidence of it.
The Long View
At Bridgeway, we are thinking beyond Sunday mornings. We are thinking about who your child becomes when they face pressure, questions, or uncertainty.
We are asking a deeper question: Will their faith endure when life doesn’t go as planned?
As adults, we know our children will at some point face a life-altering challenge. In that moment, knowledge alone won’t be enough. Your child will need a steady confidence in God and a faith they have made their own that is strong enough to rebuild on.
Through spaces like Craft Club, LEGO Club, Bible Club, Choir, Dance, Drama, Tech Team, and Worship Team, we are helping them develop more than skills. We are helping them build faith.
So when life scatters the pieces, they won’t panic. They will pause, remember what is true, and pick themselves up to try again—this time building on the unshakable foundation of Christ.
