Baptism is an symbolic action of going into water and emerging a new person after God enters our lives. Several times a year, we baptize those who wish to publicly identify with Jesus at our Bridgeway Baptism Services.

The testimonies below share the power God has to transform lives for His purposes. We share these stories to give glory to God and to invite others who may be able to relate to trust God in their own lives.

Before I met Christ, I was like a plastic bag blowing in the wind. I flew whichever direction the wind was blowing. When I came to Bridgeway, I was in a very dark place in my life. But it was here that Christ interrupted my hopeless journey and swept me up.

My life has changed since meeting Christ. He has given direction to my life and has showed me there is a purpose and future for me. I am now more hopeful and more joyful.

Jesus Christ is my friend and an ally who is always with me no matter where I am and what I am doing. I decided to be baptized because I wanted to obey Jesus’ instruction to make new disciples and baptize them.

I can’t pinpoint an exact day or time when I met Christ. My parents instilled the importance of a relationship with Christ at a young age, and I grew up going to Church. But something was missing.

For most of my life, I believed my actions determined if and how God accepted me. Since I knew I had sinned, I felt like I had to keep starting over and trying harder just to gain His acceptance. I was actually reading the Left Behind book series when I realized church attendance and knowledge of God didn’t equal a relationship with or passion for God.

It was at Bridgeway I began to look at my life and relationship with God differently. I now realize that God loves and accepts me just as I am. It’s because of His grace, mercy, and sacrifice on the cross – and not my actions – that God accepts me.

This truth has been so freeing, knowing I don’t have to rely on good works. Too often I have failed, so I am so thankful Jesus has cleansed me from all sins. I want to be baptized in order to publicly and physically acknowledge Jesus as my Lord and Savior.

My life used to be all about me. I was self-centered and obnoxious, and pride almost killed me. Satan had me by the scruff of the neck, and I was heading down a destructive path for a third time. It was during this time when I was at my worst, that Jesus snatched me up! He said He wasn’t finished with me quite yet and told me to come to Bridgeway. It was clear I needed to sit down, shut up, listen, and allow Jesus to open my heart and mind.

I have been learning humility since meeting Christ. I have also experienced freedom from the guilt and shame I carried for years. I am no longer a slave to drugs and sex. For me, baptism is a visible sign that Jesus is changing my life.
